HIPAA Regulations |
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) affects both the coverage that Agents seek for their clients as well as the way Agents handle their clients' personal health care data. HIPAA aims both to make it easier for employees to change jobs without losing access to insurance as well as to safeguard sensitive information about an individual’s health. HIPAA limits exclusions for pre-existing conditions, guarantees availability and renewability of coverage for small employers, and provides special enrollment rights for individuals who lose their coverage or require additional coverage due to such personal circumstances as divorce or the birth of a child. HIPAA also established rules on how an individual’s health information can be utilized. Insurers are required to inform people about their rights and take reasonable steps to secure private health data. EBRM® can help you navigate these federal regulations as well as other laws that impact how Agents do their jobs. |
